Welcome to Sensei Hollywood's Dojo
a movie studio for kids...

Class Offerings
About What We Do...

Sensei Hollywood's Dojo was created as a “movie studio for kids”, classes where original movie ideas generated by kids get produced and assembled by kids, (with a bit of guidance from their Sensei*...)
The studio's classes are designed to be hands-on, fun, and engaging, while students learn the skills they need to write, make, and edit their own short films. Sensei Hollywood's Dojo is a great option for homeschool families looking for a creative and educational experience for their children.
Our courses help young storytellers develop their skills, unleash their creativity and create work they can be proud of, while learning valuable skills that will last a lifetime.

Moviemaking
In this in-person, hands-on class, students will get an overview of film production, learn the fundamentals, and produce their own short film as a class. We’ll explore ways to tell stories and communicate ideas with pictures and sound, and get hands-on experience using professional gear, as well as consumer technology like iPhones and home computers. We show our film at the end of the term at a “Gala Premiere”.
Video Editing
Students will learn basic video editing for Film, Television, YouTube, and other applications. Students will learn at their own pace, as we take footage from original and found sources and edit them into new creations. We’ll do several projects over the term, and have fun while learning how to manipulate media.
Topics include: basic editing skills, transitions, color correction, titles and animation, the use of music, audio post-production, workflow, media management, project finalization, and project upload (to YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
Beginners welcome!

Scriptwriting
Students will learn the process of developing original story ideas into compelling movies. We'll learn about Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey / Monomyth and how we can use it to build structure in our stories. We’ll watch and analyze clips from famous films as we brainstorm our individual ideas, develop “loglines” into treatments, and then into finished scripts. We’ll create storyboards and shot lists to help visualize our scripts and get them ready to be produced and turned into finished films. Finally, we'll create an "elevator pitch" to see if we can get our movie made...
(Many of the scripts we’ve made in this class were made into actual films in our MovieMaking Class!)
