About the Dojo
Sensei Hollywood's Dojo* is envisioned as a "movie studio for kids": integrated classes offering fun, unique hands-on opportunities for kids to learn the technical, collaborative, and creative skills involved in moviemaking and media arts. Kids work as a team to write the scripts, draw the storyboards, learn to use the equipment and put it all together.
We started at the LEAD homeschool co-op in 2018, as kids leaned over my shoulder to watch as I edited video on my laptop, while waiting for my kid to get out of class. At some point, it was suggested that I should just teach a class already...
We started with MovieMaking 101, that turned into more classes, and one thing led to another... We've gone on to offer classes in moviemaking, scriptwriting, video editing, animation, and more.
Beyond that, it's my hope that the lessons learned along the way about the power of hard work, creativity, and collaboration will remain with our students as they advance through life...
